Long Island's South Shore, curated weekly
South Shore Digest guide · updated for 2026
If you have spent a summer on the South Shore, you know the sound of a Thursday night in Patchogue. Alive After Five is the reason downtown fills up, the bands kick in, and Main Street turns into one long block party. This year, it turns 25.
A few Thursdays each summer, downtown Patchogue closes to traffic and comes alive. Live music across multiple stages, more than 120 vendors, lively outdoor dining, and a family-friendly children's area with face painting and crafts. It draws somewhere between 15,000 and 25,000 people a night, close to 100,000 across the summer, which makes it one of the biggest street festivals on all of Long Island. It is free, and it is for everyone.
Alive After Five runs four Thursdays this year, each from 5 to 9 PM:
It all happens along Main Street in downtown Patchogue. The village fills up fast on an Alive After Five night, so come early for the close lots, or park a few blocks out and walk in. The Greater Patchogue Chamber keeps a downtown parking guide on its website.
Twenty-five years in, Alive After Five is still the easiest yes on a summer Thursday. We will see you on Main Street.
