Long Island's South Shore, curated weekly
South Shore Digest guide · updated for 2026
There is a particular kind of summer Thursday in Brightwaters. The sun starts to drop over the Great South Bay, a local band sets up on the sand, and half the village drifts down to Walker Beach with folding chairs and coolers. That is Walker Beach Family Nights, and in 2026 it doubles as the village's way of saluting America's 250th.
Every Thursday evening through the summer, the Village of Brightwaters hosts free live music right on the bayfront at Walker Beach, from 6 to 8 PM. The performers are local favorites, and each night is sponsored by one of the village's own families. There is no ticket and no cover. You are welcome to bring your own dinner, or grab something from the food trucks that set up on-site. It is easy, it is neighborly, and it is built for families.
All nights run Thursday, 6 to 8 PM at Walker Beach:
Walker Beach is the Village of Brightwaters' bayfront beach. During regular daytime hours the village checks beach passes, and while these evening events are generally welcoming to the community, access rules can vary night to night. If you are coming from outside Brightwaters, it is worth a quick check with the Village of Brightwaters first so you know what to expect at the gate. It is a small ask for a lovely evening on the bay.
Bring a chair or a blanket, pack dinner or plan on the food trucks, and get there on the early side if you want a good spot on the sand.
Eight Thursdays, one beautiful stretch of bay, and a whole village that shows up for its neighbors. That is about as good as a South Shore summer night gets.
